I joined the YPO Rhino Global Awareness internship around 4 months ago when I was planning my summer schedule, as university was breaking for summer. The Young President’s Organization has time and time again planned expeditions around the world for good causes, creating a real global impact. The stop rhino poaching internship caught my attention through a fellow YPO recruiter who described to me the severity of the rhino poaching crisis in Southern Africa. Traveling is one of my favorite pastimes and this internship involves traveling to South Africa and Botswana, two countries I have never visited. I am a business major and this internship has allowed me to open up my sales skills and communication skills to get people aware and willing to help us fight the plight against rhinos. Creating global awareness via social media and personal communications appealed to me in that I will be making a change in the world and applying my marketing and sales skills to open up a new message to people globally. By highlighting the situation of species threatened for extinction, I can get people to contribute funds to the cause as well as decrease demand for rhino horn and other animal trophies. Hopefully a more educated worldly population will result in less rhinos being slaughtered.
